Well, August 26th. I kept seeing news stories about this yesterday and was getting angry like, “I know this is a movie, you don’t have to keep telling me — WAIT. This is a release date announcement!” and just about wept. Ghost Killer is also coming out soon, in a couple of weeks.
As I’m sure I’ll discuss over on QNA in December, this has been the Year of Japan for me. Not only the Baby Assassins movies (and to a lesser extent, all that garbage I watched for “Japanese Fighting Girl”), but a bunch of memorable J-horror — Ringu, Tomie, House — and I doubt I’ll see a movie better than Sonatine. God, that movie is so good. I also got around to finally seeing Shin Ultraman, and that was fantastic.
But the thing occupying my mind right now is Squid Game. I’ve just gone back and started from season one, because I can’t get it out of my head. I’m thinking of doing a larger-than-usual post (maybe video) as a kind of tribute or a farewell.
Anyway, everything is cyclical. Earlier this year, Baby Assassins was my desktop wallpaper for about three seconds before I saw Squid Game 2. And now I’ll finally get to see Nice Days next month!

Also exciting, The Shrouds released today on Criterion. I’m gonna wait for Blossoms Shanghai before restarting that subscription, though. And S Line is out? I think? Now that I’m completely dialed in on Oh My Girl, I’m dying to see Arin and my fav Lee Da-hee. But it’s on Waave, or Wavve, which is also where that Kara show was broadcast. That doesn’t bode well for me.
I guess take this is a midyear check-in. As far as new movies go, I think 28 Years Later is my frontrunner, and we’ll see if the new Predator makes a reasonable challenge. I’d also like to see Tornado, and Sinners will be streaming soon. Friendship, too. I just watched all of I Think You Should Leave recently. Now I could go for a sloppy steak.
I guess I saw the new Jurassic Park last week. That was… pretty sad.
